The 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games was the first Games to be hosted in Scotland. They were the
first Games to use metric distances and electronic photo-finish technology. They were also the first
Commonwealth Games that HM Queen Elizabeth II attended in her capacity as Head of the
Commonwealth.
