Our story

2021

Founded in 2021 in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

With an authentic approach to sustainability in a world of greenwashing, our mission is to offer the best and most sustainable solutions to consumers, businesses, and organisations.

2022

As dog ownership in the UK surged to 17 million during the pandemic, over 12 billion single-use plastic dog waste bags were used—far surpassing the 488 million plastic carrier bags used in 2021. Recognising the environmental toll of this overlooked issue, we set out to create a solution. We developed and launched the Harmless Poop Bag, made from medical-grade, water-dissolvable, non-toxic, and microplastic-free materials—offering a more sustainable alternative to conventional waste bags.

2023

During the pandemic, UK dog ownership soared to 17 million, bringing with it an often-overlooked environmental crisis with over 12 billion single-use plastic dog waste bags discarded annually, dwarfing the 488 million plastic carrier bags used in 2021. Seeing the urgent need for change, we created the Harmless Poop Bag, a water-reactive, medical-grade, and non-toxic innovation, designed to offer a truly sustainable alternative to conventional waste bags.

Project Harmless was honoured as a finalist for “Sustainability Entrepreneur of the Year” and “Innovator of the Year” at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2023. We were also named “Innovator of the Year Finalist” at the 2023 Made in Scotland Awards.

2025

The beauty industry has long been plagued by greenwashing, especially around “sustainable” palm oil and ingredients like EDTA. Palm oil production causes deforestation, habitat loss, and biodiversity decline, while EDTA contributes to marine pollution.

Harmless Apothecary specialises in small-batch, premium skincare products, free from palm oil, EDTA, and artificial fragrances. Our mission is to provide sustainable skincare that nourishes the skin and protects the planet.
