MacLaren Collection
The MacLaren tartan is a vibrant testament to the clan’s enduring legacy, weaving together deep greens and blues with accents of red and yellow. These colors not only create a visually striking pattern but also embody the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands, reflecting the lush landscapes and rich heritage of Clan MacLaren. This tartan has transcended its origins, notably being adopted by the global Scouting movement in 1921 to honor William de Bois Maclaren’s significant contribution of Gilwell Park to the organisation.
The MacLaren clan’s ancestral lands are nestled in the picturesque regions of Balquhidder and Strathearn, areas steeped in history and tradition. The clan’s motto, “Creag an Tuirc” (The Boar’s Rock), and its crest, featuring a lion’s head crowned with an antique crown flanked by laurel branches, symbolise strength, resilience, and a profound connection to their homeland.

Project Harmless Presents:
A Canadian’s ode to Scotland
Heritage, Elevated.
Twenty meters of exceptionally high-quality heavyweight tartan, originally crafted for Highland kilts, has found new expression. Rescued from the archives of a distinguished Scottish kilt-making house before its doors closed, this storied textile carries the weight of history, steeped in tradition, yet destined for transformation.
Through the lens of modern craftsmanship, its deep, rich hues echo the untamed beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Every fold, every thread speaks of past mastery, now elevated for a new era.
Neither bound by nostalgia nor constrained by time, the MacLaren Collection embodies a seamless dialogue between heritage and innovation. Timeless by nature, reimagined with purpose.
