We’re thrilled to share that Project Harmless has been shortlisted for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the Insider Made in Scotland Awards 2025! It’s an honour to be recognised alongside outstanding Scottish businesses who are pushing boundaries in sustainable manufacturing.
From Deadstock Tartan to Plastic-Free Accessories
Our nominated initiative transforms deadstock tartan from the 1970 Commonwealth Games into modern, durable accessories. Every piece is handmade in Scotland in small batches and designed to be completely plastic-free. Where most brands default to plastic fastenings, we specify naturally shed deer antler buttons and plastic-free trims. We also avoid polyester entirely, choosing natural fibres that are kinder to people and the planet.
The fashion industry produces billions of plastic buttons every year, a hidden waste stream that often ends up in landfill. Our approach proves beautiful design doesn’t need plastic.

Why This Matters for Scotland & Fashion
Scotland’s manufacturing heritage is globally respected. By pairing that heritage with modern circular design, we keep valuable materials in use and reduce dependency on fossil-based components. It’s a practical path for fashion, rooted in craft, measurable in impact.
About the Made in Scotland Awards 2025
The awards celebrate the strength and diversity of Scotland’s manufacturing sector across categories including renewables, digital technology, and sustainability. The ceremony takes place on 25 September 2025 at the Voco Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow.
